The Balance of Competences Review was launched by the UK Foreign Secretary, William Hague, in July 2012 to examine the balance of competences between the UK and the European Union.

The review will provide an analysis of what the UK’s membership of the EU means for the UK national interest.

HM Treasury, which is leading on the two strands of the review covering the EU budget and financial services and the free movement of capital, on 21 October 2013, launched a call for views from individuals and groups with an interest or experience in these policy areas and how the EU’s competence is used and what that means for Britain.
