EU deploys Election Observation Mission to Timor-Leste

The European Union announced on 14 February 2017 the deployment of an Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Timor-Leste, responding to an invitation by the country's authorities. Presidential and Parliamentary elections were scheduled to take place in 2017.

The EOM Core Team arrived in East Timor on 12 February and was set to stay until the completion of the electoral process. A comprehensive final report would be prepared. Ms Izaskun Bilbao Barandica was appointed at Chief Observer of the Mission.
