EU gives opinion on vaccine patent

A vaccine company can have the right to extend monopoly protection on a modified version of its original patented product, according to closely watched and complex guidance by an Advocate General of the European Court of Justice issued in July 2011. The Opinion if followed subsequently by the judgement of the Court is likely to spark fresh rounds of litigation.
