EU governments have rubber stamped European Commission proposals to give companies another ten years to switch to metric-only labels on their products

A 1979 directive on measurements was due to enter into force on 1 January 2000, but member states heeded firms' warnings that the move should be postponed because the US, where Imperial measurements are still used, had not made the expected headway in adapting to the metric system.
