The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) confirmed to EurActiv that it had opened an investigation into the costly rail link between Turin (Italy) and Lyon (France), following a request from French Green MEPs Karima Delli and Michèle Rivasi in December 2014. This examination started amid cost overruns and allegations of mafia links in Italy.

The EU had already contributed €450 million to the project, while France and Italy still intended to claim a further €4 billion of EU funding.
