Book abstract:

A new edition of a key EU law textbook now extending to over 1200 pages. 'EU law. Text, cases and materials' provides law students with a comprehensive and authoritative guide to all aspects of EU institutional and substantive law. A distinctive feature of the book is the combination of narrative text by the authors, extracts from EU case law presenting the key sections of judgements, and recent academic commentary.

Initial chapters deal with the development of European integration, the institutions of the Union, policy making, and the nature, effect and application of EC law. Subsequent chapters deal with the key cornerstone substantive principles of the Union: the four freedoms, equal treatment, competition law, intellectual property and the single market.

This new edition takes into account changes brought about the Treaty of Nice, the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the current work of the European Convention and important recent judgements in the European Courts.

With a volume so substantial it is vital to be able to navigate the text easily. The authors have, as ever, provided a detailed contents and index, tables of cases (numerical and alphabetical), and a table of treaty articles, legislative acts and national legislation.
