EU leaders play down threat of Italy boycott

Senior figures in the European Union have sought to play down threats of a possible boycott of Italy if Silvio Berlusconi and the centre-right come to power in the election in the spring of 2001, insisting it would be a mistake to interfere in the country's general election campaign.
