EU leaders to meet for ‘informal’ talks, two days after elections

Herman Van Rompuy, the President of the European Council, said in an interview to the Belgian newspaper Le Soir in January 2014 that he would convene an exceptional European Council summit two days after the May 2014 EU election polls close, in a move to put heads of states back in the driver’s seat to choose the new President of the European Commission.
