Summary:

Set of conclusions adopted by the Council of the European Union on 13 July 2020 concerning the European Union's priorities at the United Nations for the near future.

Further information:

These priorities were developed under the themeĀ Championing multilateralism and a strong and effect UN that delivers for all.

The Council argues that the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic demonstrated the need for multilateral cooperation, where a rules-based international order must be upheld and solidarity strengthened.

For the 75th UN General Assembly, the EU is to focus on priorities such as human rights and gender equality, promoting peace and security, building a fair globalisation, accelerating the global transition towards sustainable and climate-neutral future, and leading the transition to a digital world. Preserving the humanitarian space and ensuring respect for international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles are to remain equally important for the European Union.

The EU is also to reaffirm support to the United Nations as an indispensable forum for multilateral solutions to global challenges.
