Summary:

The Council of the European Union decided on 5 July 2018 to prolong economic sanctions targeting specific sectors of the Russian economy for a further six months.

Further information:

The decision followed an update on the state of implementation of the Minsk agreements, to which the restrictive measures are linked. It was adopted unanimously by Member States.

The measures target the financial, energy and defence sectors, and the area of dual-use goods. They were originally introduced in July 2014 and strengthened in September 2014.
