EU Development Commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, announced on the 2 October 2014 a new project to promote and protect the rights of migrants moving between developing countries, worth over €10 million. The project focused on two types of migrants: those who carry out domestic work in the recipient country (e.g. house-cleaning) and those who fall victim of human trafficking. The project in funded under the Global Public Goods and Challenges programme – which is part of the Development and Cooperation Instrument. It would be implemented by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), targeting the following origin, transit and destination countries: + Ethiopia and Zimbabwe in Africa + Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Honduras in the Americas + Indonesia, Nepal, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Russia and Tajikistan in Asia + Jordan, Lebanon and Morocco in Middle East and North Africa |
