Article reports from the Ambrosetti Forum: Workshop, 26 March 2010, 'The outlook for financial markets, their governance and finance'.

The article suggests that the shock of the Greek economic crisis in 2010 for the eurozone countries could help propel the EU towards deeper economic integration.

Nevertheless, politicians will struggle to press ahead with painful structural reforms needed to raise Europe’s longer-term growth potential, particularly given the virulent – and understandable – backlash against the free market model prompted by the global financial crisis.

However, Europe will have to do far more to win the economic war for competitiveness in a globalised world tilting rapidly towards Asia.
