EU threat to Turkey over penal code

Turkey should be blocked from joining the European Union unless it revises the much-criticised Article 301 of its penal code that makes it a crime to insult Turkish national identity, the European Commission recommended on 6 November 2007 in its annual progress report on the state of its negotiations for Turkey to join the EU
