.eu top level domain open for business, January 2006

The new .eu top level domain, resulting from Regulation (EC) No 733/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 April 2002 on the implementation of the .eu Top Level Domain, is now being introduced. It will be available as an additional option fro individuals, organisations and companies in the European Union but does not directly replace national country domains. So called Sunrise registration is now open for existing trademark holders and public bodies from 7th December 2005 to 6th April 2006. Holders of other prior rights can register from 7th February 2006 to 6th April 2006 before registration is opened to the general public from 7th April.
