As the prospects of reaching a deal in the Doha Round of world trade talks look increasingly dim, Open Europe Director Neil O’Brien criticises the EU’s trade policy in Brussels magazine E Sharp, arguing that the EU’s system of trade preferences for some developing countries is no substitute for real trade liberalisation. He argues that redirecting the CAP budget for just one week a year would allow the EU do double its aid to sub-Saharan Africa, and calls on the EU to at least match the WTO offer made by the G20 group of developing countries.
