The latest release of EUR-Lex in February 2006 has introduced some improvements to the search facility. The search now ignores capitals and accents thus producing much more consistent results. Although this will not have a great impact in English it will make searching for example in French much more reliable. It is also now possible to combine truncated terms so genetic* modif* will return both genetically modified and genetic modification. Using the browser back button rather than following the breadcrumb trail at the top of the screen will allow you to return to the search screen without losing the search terms you had entered. You can then make amendments without having to re-enter all the data. These may all sound like minor issues but added together they help make the improved searching more user-friendly and efficient. The changes can be tested at {http://europa.eu.int/eur-lex/lex}.
