The Federal Council in Switzerland approved the Europe 2006 Report in June 2006. This examines the various instruments of European policy in terms of the best possible means of safeguarding Switzerland’s interests. The Federal Council concludes that Switzerland’s objectives can be achieved by developing the existing treaty framework, so long as the following conditions, among others, are fulfilled: adequate participation in decision-shaping and sufficient room for
manoeuvre, feasibility from a foreign policy point of view, and favourable economic conditions. If these conditions change, the instruments will have to be adapted.
