The 2014 UK National Reform Programme sets out the actions that the UK government is taking to address the structural reform challenges facing the UK, in line with a set of Country Specific Recommendations agreed by Heads of State or government at the European Council in June 2013.

Member states of the European Union submit a National Reform Programme, in April each year, as part of the European Semester. The new EU surveillance structure under Europe 2020, known as the European Semester, brings together reporting on fiscal and structural policies.

The UK National Reform Programme, submitted on 30 April 2014 draws on publicly available information and sets out the UK’s economic prospects and plans. It includes:

+ the Office for Budget Responsibility’s ‘Economic and fiscal outlook’
+ the 6 recommendations addressed to the UK by the June 2013 European Council
+ action taken by the government to address these challenges, including announcements made at Budget 2014, and the Autumn Statement 2013
+ the UK’s approach to national monitoring in line with the 5 headline European targets agreed by the European Council in June 2010
