Europe listens to civil society

Organized civil society represents thousand of associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) throughout Europe. In recent years, it has become increasingly vociferous on issues such as unemployment, protection of the environment, aid to developing countries and the fight against social exclusion and poverty. This article looks at some of the initiatives taken by the European Commission to meet the demands of this new voice in the European debate.
