Spain's prime minister has launched a campaign against domestic violence in Europe, calling it one of the worst forms of human rights violations. He was speaking at a conference launch of the Council of Europe Campaign to combat violence against women in Madrid (Spain) on 27 November 2006. During the Council of Europe Third Summit (Warsaw, 16-17 May 2005), the Heads of State and Government of the 46 member countries of the Organisation reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating violence against women, including domestic violence. In their Plan of Action, they decided to launch a pan-European campaign in this field, in close co-operation with other European and national actors, including NGOs. |
