Europe rushes to stake claim to IMF job

Article reports that European policymakers were scrambling to stake the continent’s claim to provide the next leader of the International Monetary Fund, after the resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn as managing director on the 19 May 2011.

Officials from Europe, which has provided every managing director since the IMF started to operate in 1946, said that the difficulties in western European economies argued for the tradition to be continued.
