Abstract:

This work is comprised of papers presented at the Fourteenth Annual Conference of the European Air Law Association held in Stockholm in November 2002. The fifteen papers are preceded by welcome addresses from the President of the European Air Law Association and the Director-General of Swedish Aviation Administration.

The first paper presents a review of regional civil aviation with specific reference to developments in the Nordic area. This is followed by a report of the current situation relating to claims arising from the events of 11 September 2001. The next three papers discuss passenger rights. Two papers address the 'open skies' issue with particular emphasis placed upon the European Court of Justice judgements. There are also papers on the European Commission's competition policy, one concentrating on enforcement priorities in air transport and another reviewing the application of European competition law in the sector. Several speakers present papers dealing with state aid, asking the question 'is state aid coming back?'. The final paper looks at recent judgments of the Court of Justice and the Court of First Instance and pending cases regarding civil aviation.

The work will interest executives and lawyer practitioners engaged in the civil aviation industry.
