Abstract: This paper sets out to review the issues raised by the possible removal of border controls within the European Community (EC) as a whole, with particular reference to the implications for the United Kingdom (UK), and to suggest some practical ways forward for policy-makers. In the course of this analysis some alternatives to the existing pattern of border controls are also considered with reference to their likely effectiveness. |
