European court decision could force sentence reviews for 1,300 murderers

A ruling by the European Court of Human Rights on 28 May 2002 could mean that hundreds of murderers in UK jails could have their sentences reviewed without government intervention. The Court ruled that the UK Government had violated the rights of a convicted murderer, Dennis Stafford, by extending his imprisonment.
