A Bill creating a single national constituency was approved by France's National Assembly on 20 February 2018, and formally adopted by the Senate on 23 May 2018. It was promulgated on 25 June 2018 following the validation of the Constitutional Court. The country elects 81 of the 720 members of the European Parliament. The months preceding the election were framed by the far-right National Rally (Rassemblement National) leading the opinion polls, in a wider context of gains by right-wing parties across the EU. |
