European Union activities on environmental matters 1998:
Europe Information Service, the publisher of a large number of European current awareness services including the biweekly European Report, has published a new edition of its review of EU environmental policy. This gives a complete and up-to-date overview of EU action in this area, which the author characterises as having recently regained some momentum after a period of restructuring and less inclination to legislate on the part of the EU authorities.

The report is broken down into three key sections: in Part I all the main measures taken in the area of the environment at an EU level from the beginning of 1997 to April 1998 are described under the following headings: The main priority axes; improving air quality; climate change; reducing water pollution; industry and products; waste; nature protection; noise abatement; financing actions; European Environment Agency. Part II consists of an overview and inventory of all legislation and other acts tabled by the European Commission and adopted or pending by the Council of the European Union. Part III is a directory of names and addresses of decision-making authorities or specialists in the field of the environment in the European Institutions.
