Abstract:

European Union Politics equips readers to understand the European Union (EU) and the topical debates and issues which surround it. Alongside comprehensive coverage of the history, theory, institutions, and policies of the EU, it features chapters on contemporary issues and current debates, including democracy and legitimacy in the EU, citizens and public opinion, the economic crisis.

This edition introduces a chapter exploring the EU's response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic in its many fronts. The migration and refugee crisis is also covered in this edition. A revised chapter explores the history of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), and how it has developed its role. The textbook was updated throughout to reflect the diverse political issues and developments facing the EU, including the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA), the recovery from the pandemic, and climate change.
