The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), on 12 July 2011, released a joint report on antimicrobial resistance in zoonotic bacteria affecting humans, animals and food.

Zoonoses are infections and diseases that are transmissible between animals and humans; of these the most reported are Salmonella and Campylobacter. The zoonotic bacteria that are resistant to antimicrobials are of special concern since they might compromise the effective treatment of infections in humans and also in animals.
