Book abstract:

This book explicitly sets out to encourage the scientific study of various European organisations and their roles. In doing so, it compiles data that is peculiar to or rather is about European organisations and the OECD, as oppose to that of European organs themselves or Commissions of the United Nations, and by that covers a vast amount of information.

There are entries, to begin with, on the Table of Members of European organisations in 2000, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the European Central Bank (ECB), which includes information on the organisation of this body itself, its decision-making constituents, and the system of central banks. It further deals, to use some selective examples, with the Benelux Economic Union (BENELUX), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Council of Europe in 2000 (C of E), the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT), the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN), the Nordic Council and Nordic Council of Ministers (NC), and the European Space Agency (ESA). There is also work on the European Patent Office (EPO), the European Union (EU) itself, as well as the Western European Union (WEU).

The yearbook contains a specialised bibliography of relevant articles and books for 2000, as well as information on websites.
