Europe’s arms industry must collaborate or die

EUROFIGHTER. Eurofrigate. Eurocopter. Increasing joint weapons systems give the impression that European nations are integrating their defence industries along the lines of the single market.

But EU governments are far from unified on matters of procurement and exports, despite talk of European projects, agencies and markets.

The industry, more tied to government whims than any other, is anxious for a political environment that will allow it to create the joint ventures it sees as necessary for survival.
