Further information:

The United States imposed a similar ban in March 2017 on some 10 airports from eight countries around the Middle East and parts of North Africa, with the United Kingdom also taking similar measures.

This meeting was called by the European Union - the ban could affect over 3,000 direct flights made every week to the United States, likely causing disruptions.

Authorities from the United States, the European Union and some of its member states held a meeting on 17 May 2017 to exchange views on aviation security and safety, amid reports that the US planned to extend a cabin ban on large electronic devices to flights coming from Europe.

Officials agreed to meet again later in the month to work out technical details, but said no definitive decision had been made.
