The survey, conducted in March and April, found 61&percent; of the EU's population in favour of the euro and 28&percent; against compared with 64&percent;-25&percent; in a similar poll conducted last autumn. Opposition to the currency hardened significantly in the UK but weakened in Denmark. Meanwhile, weaker-than-expected business and consumer confidence data published by the European Commission this week has dampened hopes of a strong economic recovery in the euro area in the second half of the year. |
