Far-right leader woos recession-weary Italians

Italy has a rising star: Matteo Salvini, head of the Eurosceptic Northern League, is scoring high in the polls as he bids to fill the political vacuum on the right left by Silvio Berlusconi.

During a visit to the European Parliament in November 2014, 5-Star Movement's leader Beppe Grillo showed openness to work with Mr Salvini's Northern League to promote a referendum on the euro currency in Italy.
