Fears for policing in the narrow streets of Genoa

The rioting in Gothenburg during the European Council meeting of 15-16 June 2001, has caused great concern for the authorities in Genoa, where a Group of Eight (G8) Summit is due to take place on 20-22 July 2001. It is feared that the G8 summit could be the focus of anti-globalisation demonstrations far more extensive that those seen previously. Governments of the leading industrialised states are to use a detailed police dossier to prevent key organisers from entering countries hosting future meetings.
