This report contains the UK Government responses to the recommendations and conclusions that were set out in the 50th Report of the House of Lords Select Committee on the European Union (HL 270-I/II of session 2005-06), 'Financial Management and Fraud in the European Union: Perceptions, Facts and Proposals'. The Government agreed with many of the Committee's conclusions and observations on the presence of fraud and corruption in the European Union, and that a lack of a Statement of Assurance from the European Court of Auditors, was not an indication of widespread fraud and corruption in the EU itself. The Government welcomed a number of the Committee's recommendations, including that the European Court of Auditors should produce a list of those Member States demonstrating poor management of European funds. The report also includes a response from the European Court of Auditors on 15 December 2006, and a response from the European Commission on 16 March 2007.
