Finnish PM Katainen ‘not a candidate’ for EU Commission job

Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen, who had been seen as one of the likely nominees to replace José Manuel Barroso as EU Commission president, is not a candidate, EurActiv was told by one of his closest aides on the 6 February 2014.

However, EurActiv reported that Katainen said on the 5 April 2014 that he would resign as Finnish PM in the summer of 2014 after three years in office, and would be available for EU or international roles.
