Finns are getting all out of proportion, according to the latest statistics. Since joining the EU at the start of 1995, Finland has been celebrating the benefits of lower food and drink prices by consuming an average of 5&percent; more.

Especially popular are eggs, cheese and meat, while consumption of fats, oils and fish are down. Add to this a 25&percent; increase in consumption of spirits as a result of a boost in cross-border trade with Russia, and it is no wonder that Finns are supporters of EU membership.
