First consultation paper on the implementation of the EC Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC)

This consultation paper invites views on key issues arising from the implementation in England and Wales of the EC Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC). The European Council of Ministers and the European Parliament adopted the Water Framework Directive in September 2000, following almost four years of negotiations. The UK Government welcomed the agreement of the Directive, which it did much to progress during its Presidency in 1998. The Directive entered into force on 22 December 2000. Member states have three years to transpose its requirements into national legislation. Deadline date for responses: 29.6.01.
