Although Spanish troops regained control of the disputed islet of Perejil (Parsley Island) on 17 July 2002, analysts believe Morocco may turn its attention to the status of two Spanish enclaves on the Mediterranean coast of the Moroccan mainland. Ceuta and Melilla have remained under Spanish control since Moroccan independence from France in 1956.
