As food miles ignores GHG emissions associated with food production, it is widely accepted by politicians and scientists that distance travelled is not a good indicator of environmental sustainability. However, the concept has grown in importance in countries like France, Germany and the United Kingdom - to the detriment of the world's poorest countries.
