Summary:

A meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) was held on 24 January 2022. The agenda included the following items:

• Adoption of conclusions on the European security situation, with a focus on Russia's military build-up around Ukraine but also covering the situation in Belarus and Kazakhstan;
• Exchange of views on the latest developments in Syria;
• Exchange of views on the latest development in Libya, in particularly the postponement of the national elections in the country;
• Update on a set of other situations unfolding across the globe, including in Mali and in Burkina Faso;
• Adoption of Council conclusions on:
  • UN-EU strategic partnership on peace operations and crisis management;
  • EU priorities in United Nations human rights fora in 2022.
