Foreign Affairs Council, 25 January 2021

Summary:

A meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) was held on 25 January 2021. The agenda included the following items:

• Exchange of views on climate and energy diplomacy, followed by the adoption of conclusions on this matter;
• Discussion with the Japanese Foreign Minister on bilateral relations and their approaches to the Indo-Pacific region;
• Briefing on the latest developments in Russia and the events around the detention of Alexey Navalny;
• Update on the EU strategy for sharing COVID-19 vaccines with third country partners;
• Exchange of views on the relations between the European Union and the United States, in light of a new US administration;
• Discussion on all aspects of the relations with Turkey as identified at a previous meeting of the European Council;
• Discussion on the situation of migrants in Bosnia & Herzegovina, as well as the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Tigray region;
• Adoption of conclusions on Venezuela and on the launch of a pilot case for the Coordinated Maritime Presences concept in the Gulf of Guinea;
• Informal discussion on EU-UK cooperation in matters of common foreign, security and defence policy.
