This publication gives an insight into the role of foreign owned enterprises within eight Member States - Denmark, Spain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The analysis is divided into two parts. Part I concerns the presence of foreign owned enterprises in EU Member States and attempts to answer questions such as: Which countries have set up foreign affiliates in the EU? In which host countries in the EU are foreign owned enterprises located? Which economic activities attract foreign ownership? Part two looks at the economic and labour-related characteristics of foreign owned enterprises and considers topics such as size, productivity and profitability.
