Euronews and other news sources reported that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had agreed in September 2014 to hear an appeal by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi against his conviction for tax fraud in 2012.

The article in the The Local.it (see related url hyperlinks) suggested that Mr Berlusconi, even after his legal problems and political downfall, still cast a spell and influence over Italian politics.
