Report of a speech by Liam Fox, the United Kingdom shadow Defence Secretary, 11 February 2010.

He said that a future Conservative government would seek to boost Britain's military relations with France, stating that he wanted to see 'a renewed and energised Anglo-French synergy' in future years.

However, he continued to demonstrate his firm opposition to further European Union military integration, making clear that he believed the long-term goal of some European Union governments was to create a 'European army'.

he also said that he was leaving open the possibility of pulling the UK out of the European Defence Agency, a body that aims to make the military programmes of EU member states more coherent.
