France faces daily fine for banning British beef

The European Commission recommended on 17 July 2002 that France should be fined €158,250 for every day it refuses to lift its ban on British beef. The Commission referred France back to the European Court of Justice for failing to abide by the Court's December 2001 ruling that the ban was illegal
