French far-right National Front leader Marine Le Pen made a shock announcement on the 7 April 2015 that she would 'oppose' her party-founding father Jean-Marie Le Pen in regional elections due in December 2015 following recent inflammatory comments.

French political scientist Bruno Cautres from Sciences Po university told The Local.fr that Marine Le Pen had to ditch her father before the 2017 presidential elections.
