French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder have agreed to hold a special summit next month to try to ease differences between the EU’s most powerful members.

The decision comes in the wake of last week's Nice summit, which saw the two at odds over Berlin's failed bid for more votes than Paris in the Council of Ministers to reflect Germany's much larger population.
