Article reports on two opinion polls taken in France in January 2013 after United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledge to hold an 'in-out' referendum on British membership after the next UK general election. The results of the polls showed contrasting results.

An Ifop poll in the newspaper Journal du Dimanche returned a strong majority for keeping the Brits inside the European club, with 58% in favour and 42%.

But another sounding by BVA for the rival newspaper Le Parisien found that 52% favoured a British departure – or 'Brexit' as it has become known.
