From 2009 onwards, the European Capital of Culture programme will be extended to include the ‘new’ Member States

Summary:

The European Parliament yesterday adopted a decision including the ten Member States which acceded to the Union in May 2004 in the list of countries eligible to submit candidate cities for the European Capital of Culture for the years 2009 to 2019. During the first six months of this year, the European Commission will be proposing changes to the rules for designating the European Capitals of Culture.
